Broadmead is not just a shopping centre, it’s a major part of our city centre – and because the city is historic Bristol, the experience is unforgettable!Situated in the heart of Bristol, Broadmead consists of over 300 stores comprising of national high street chains to right through to unique boutiques including; House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, Next, H&M, John Anthony, Footlocker and HMV to name but a few.
This is the largest shopping centre in the middle of Bristol and it is predominantly a pedestrianised area. Made up mostly of high street chain stores, the shops sell a wide selection of clothes, shoes etc, generally at cheaper prices than those sold found in the boutiques of Clifton. There is also a covered shopping mall, The Galleries, plus many other small shops.
Cabot Circus is a popular shopping centre in the city centre adjacent to Broadmead. It was completed in September 2008 amid much publicity.
This area had been named Merchants Quarter but in April 2006 the name was abandoned after a campaign claiming the name was offensive because it was the Bristol Merchant Venturers who dealt in the trade of African slaves.
